My Photographic Life

My First Post

Posted by on Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Well here we go again. I’ve picked up blogging again. I’ve been blogging for over a year now at MommyMD: A Guide to Realistic Parenting and have at times blogged every day, through breakfast and dinner and even through the occasional screaming. I stopped when it became overwhelming and didn’t seem to be going anywhere. I found that I missed the chronicling of my life, my work and my kids. I have sought meaning to these endless days of parenting, pediatrics and keeping house. I’m a doctor who dreams of being a writer, a photographer and a chef too. If you lived next door to me this is what you’d get:

1. A little pediatric advice. I just can’t help myself. Who are these crazy “experts” driving my patients mad? I’ll boil down what I think is important. What you shouldn’t ignore and what you should take in stride. If you really want my advice please ask, but read my disclaimer as well.

2. What I happen to be cooking. Lets face it. We all have to eat. It might as well be delicious! In my spare time I love to watch the Food Network and peruse cooking magazines and cookbooks.

3. My photography. I’ve recently graduated from a point and shoot to a digital SLR- Canon’s Rebel XTi. My current challenge is to figure out how to use it and Photoshop. In a few days I’ll get a little lesson from a good friend. I’ll let you know how that turns out.

4. My writing. I’m taking a writing course from the Institute of Children’s Literature. I’ll let you know how it’s fairing and how much pain I’m in. Blogging is another way to develop my writing. Don’t hesitate to comment. I’ll try not to take it personally.

I’ve been to a lot of places. I’ve lived in California (Northern, Central and Southern), Pennsylvania, Idaho, Virginia, Washington DC, and now Guam. I’ve visited Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Hawaii, Ecuador, Spain Mexico and Canada.

I’ve done a lot of things. I’ve gone skydiving, bungee cording jumping and spelunking. I’ve survived medical school and residency. But I’ve never deep sea dived or swam with dolphins, seen Paris or ate caviar.

Sometimes I live in fretfully in the past and fearful of the future. This blog is my attempt to bring it all together and live in the present.

    Hi again,

Just sent you an email then decided to come over a read a bit of your blog.

I’ve been skimming but have seen a lot of ups and downs in the last couple months. Sounds like the allergy issues with Jake have been trying to say the least. But at least it looks like it is getting narrowed down a bit?

Strange the things life will throw at us unexpectedly.

But then again that’s part of the fun of it. You never really know what’s going to happen next. Be kind of boring if we knew everything ahead of time though no? *grins*

Not sure if you will see this comment since it is on such an old post but I presume you will.

Nice writing style you have and great pics of the kids and family.

I’ll try to get over more often to read a bit now and then.

    Hi Skip-

Welcome. Yes Jake actually seems to be doing better. We are approved to go to Hawaii to see some specialists. Now that we are set I hope that’s all the universe needs to straighten up. When we get there I suspect he’ll be great and it’ll just be a week of relaxation and constant questions of “And just what are we doing here again??”

You’re right about the unexpected and that being part of the fun. 5 years ago you could have knocked me over suggesting I’d be in Guam. :)
